St. Simons Island is proud to have been named Number Two of “The South’s Best Islands 2017” by Southern Living due to its long level beaches, historic architecture, laid-back local lifestyle, moss-draped oaks, and more.
The Number 1 spot for “The South’s Best Barbecue Joints” went to Southern Soul Barbeque on St. Simons, the Number 3 spot for “The South’s Best Hotels” went to the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, Jekyll Island landed the Number 7 spot on “The South’s Best Islands” with bike-friendly Tybee Island named Number 10.
There are always many diverse arts, cultural, and fun events taking place on St. Simons Island. Here are just a few of the July ones coming up.
Summer Kid Show Series
Every Tuesday and Thursday in July
The Georgia Theatre Company presents this series with doors opening at 9:15 AM and features starting promptly at 10:00 AM. Children can enjoy admission, popcorn, and drinks for only $1.50 each! The schedule is:
“Sing” on July 11 and 13
“KUBO and the Two Strings” on July 15 and 27
“Storks” on July 18 and 20
Sounds by the Sea
July 23 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM
Neptune Park, St. Simons Pier Village
Admission payable at the gate is only $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12, and FREE for children younger than 6.
Featured will be Jamie Renee and The Walkers Soulful Southern Singer and Her Band. You are encouraged to bring blanket or lawn chair and a picnic supper, if you desire.
Grown Up Summer Camp
Epworth by the Sea, 100 Arthur J. Moore Drive Street
Outdoor Adventures with fearless leader, Andy Offutt Irwin, with his menagerie of sound effects and dialects, will include Fishing, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Horseback Riding on the Beach, Kayaking, a Historic Trolley Tour, a Guided Bike Tour of SSI’s South End, and an Adventure Challenge Ropes Course with Zip Line ALL.
