Equally close by is the First African Baptist Church, a national historic landmark originally built in 1869. Completing the historical trifecta, Fort Frederica National Monument, the second oldest settlement in the Georgia colony is minutes away.
Real estate options
One of St. Simons’ larger real estate communities, The Commons offers a variety of real estate choices, including homes and buildable lots, plus a nice selection of marsh view properties. Different architectural styles and generous lots add to the enjoyment of living here. Amenities include a playground and two spacious common areas. Due to its more northerly location on the Island, The Commons draws less visitor and commercial traffic. Homes in the range of 3,000 square feet and up generally sell for $370,000 to $500,000. Buildable lots are available for about $70,000 to $95,000.
