There comes a time in every parent’s life when the last child flies away from the nest. After years of pouring yourself into raising children, putting their needs first, they move out and start the next chapter of their life. And where does that leave parents? Maybe you’re a little sad, but many parents embrace this new freedom and look forward to doing things they’ve never done before.
One thing most families never do is take a vacation in the fall. Kids were in school, and it was a busy time of the year for young families. But with an empty nest, you can travel, spend time doing the things you enjoy, and take advantage of non-peak vacation rates.
St Simons Island is a perfect fall destination. After your child gets squared away, pack up your own things for a week or two and reward yourself for a job well done. The island and surrounding areas offer plenty to see and do. Enjoy visiting historical sites, kayaking around the island, laying on the beach, or climbing to the top of the lighthouse. Spend an afternoon exploring the shops or trying our local eateries.
There are also a few special events to look forward to in September. At The King and the Prince’s Echo Restaurant, enjoy the Moonrise Party from September 5-7th as you enjoy this unique astronomical experience. On September 9th, explore the Sea Island Farmer’s Market and sample local produce and baked goods. There is an outdoor concert on the 17th, and an arts and crafts festival September 23-24.
If you’re expecting an empty nest this fall, reward yourself for your years of hard work. Splurge on a getaway to St Simons Island and enjoy a vacation in this unique, and beautiful location. For more information about renting a home on the island, contact DeLoach Sotheby’s International Realty.
