The sturdiness of the trees would result in balls shot from a cannon bouncing off the ship and not destroying it.
  • The Saint Simons lighthouse suffered from a significant amount of damage during the Civil War. However, this lighthouse was built again in 1872 and it still serves a purpose today.
  • There are multiple large Golden Isles in Georgia, and one of those islands is Saint Simons Island.
  • “Marshes of Glynn”, written by Sidney Lanier was inspired by Saint Simons Island’s open salt marshes.
