Have you ever walked along a piece of Saint Simons real estate and found sea glass? Did its unique shape or color compel you to pick it up and look for more?
If so, you have something in common with Bermuda artist, Judith Paixao. She has a long history of creating beautiful jewelry with sea glass and stone. And on May 8th, 2014, she’ll be here on the island for a special event.
The special event, dubbed “Salon de Bijouterieâ€, is scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Glynn Art Association. Just in case you’ve never been there before, it’s located on Beachview Drive, within driving distance of The Rooftop at Ocean Lodge Restaurant. So you could feasibly enjoy a fresh seafood meal before meeting with Judith Paixao.
During the Salon de Bijouterie event, Paixao will entertain questions and help attendees make sea glass jewelry of their own. They’ll also be a showing of the documentary, Entry by Sea. The film, which focuses on the history of Bermuda’s sea glass, was created by her longtime spouse, Kevin Lombard. Over the years, he has worked with memorable entities, including Walter Cronkite, Anwar Sadat, Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow.
And just in case you are wondering, sea glass is not the same as beach glass. The first one is found on salt water beaches and the later comes from fresh water beaches. You can sometimes tell the difference by the amount of natural frosting involved. Oftentimes, the best times to find sea glass on St. Simons real estate is after a storm or during major spring tides (i.e. proxigean and perigean).
If creating jewelry alongside of Judith Paixao inspires you to look for your own sea glass Shangri-La, please contact us as soon as possible. Our Saint Simons real estate agents have several oceanfront properties that they can show you on Saint Simons Island and Sea Island.
